NounSingular wi-fi Plural uncountable wi-fi (uncountable)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Wi-Fi (pronounced /ˈwaɪfaɪ/) is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance that manufacturers may use to brand certified products that belong to a class of wireless local area network (WLAN) devices based on the IEEE 802.11 standards, which is by far the most widespread WLAN class today. Because of the close relationship with its underlying standards, the term Wi-Fi is often used as a synonym for IEEE 802.11 technology. The Wi-Fi Alliance, a global association of companies, promotes WLAN technology and certifies products if they conform to certain standards of interoperability. Not every IEEE 802.11-compliant device is submitted for certification to the Wi-Fi Alliance, sometimes because of costs associated with the certification process. The lack of the Wi-Fi logo does not necessarily imply a device is incompatible with Wi-Fi devices. As of 2010, IEEE 802.11 devices are installed in many personal computers, video game consoles, smartphones, printers, and other peripherals, and virtually all laptop computers. My bet is that before long wi-fi will be everywhere and we will no longer have to pay a "cell" phone bill. Instead, we will have to pay a "wi-fi" bill and cell phones will be designed to connect using the web. Eventually, I think all televisions and radios will also use the wi-fi for reception. Most municipalities that planned to set up wifi networks have dialed back or canceled their plans. It's simply too expensive. You have to set each computer on the same workgroup, so they can recognize each other. Are you running Windows XP on both computers? If so, go to: Right-click "My Computer" > Open the "Computer Name" tab Then, you will need to click on "Change" and assign both computers to the same workgroup. Make sure that you type in EXACTLY the same name for each computer, or they will not be assigned to the same workgroup! The workgroup name can be anything you want it to be, just make it one word. Restart both computers after doing this and your computers should be able to "see" each other over the network. Hope I've helped. Answered by Dark_Nightmare - Sun Oct 7 10:23:14 2007 How to do you figure out wi-fi passwords for an ipod Touch or laptop for any network?
Q. For some reason, all my friends know how to do it, but I can't figure it out. So how do you find out the password for the wi-fi. Thanks! Asked by David R - Wed Aug 26 22:23:19 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Assuming it's YOUR network, and not your neighbor's, you can get it by logging into your router with a cabled computer and looking under Wireless Security. Hope that helps.
